When I read about you, I follow myself.
I think this has been possible off and on for quite a while. Of course, the number of times you can follow yourself is exponential based on how many accounts you have. I, who for legacy reasons, have two accounts, can have me follow me and myself, and myself follow myself and me. 4 SELF FOLLOWS

Don’t follow yourself too much. You’ll go blind.

But I have one account, which is tied to one login method. Once upon a time, you could heartclick yourself. But that was a long time ago. I haven’t previously seen the ability to follow myself in this Kinja world.

Out of curiosity, is your screen name a Vurt reference?

Does the fact that this is my personal blog avatar answer your question?
( http://gamecat235.kinja.com/ ) (if not, this link will)
In short, yes. Very much so. I love Jeff Noon, and have since I first stumbled across Vurt back in the mid-90’s.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Be careful, following yourself is a paradox that may cause a cataclysmic shift in the space-time continuum. Proceed with caution.

HAH! Nice! I almost never come across any one that’s even heard of Jeff Noon. Good times. I’ve got most of his collection (minus someone stealing my copy of Pixel Juice, and never tracking down a copy of Cobralingus, or anything he may have done after that). I should really dust them off and give them a re-read after I’m done with the book I’m on now...
Edit: Geez, and then I go to Amazon and see there’s like half a dozen books of his I haven’t read!

I suppose that this could have been used as well: http://backtalk.kinja.com/remixing-langu…
Also, note, see the last picture. LOL
That sucks about Pixel Juice. You should really replace that. It’s great, and also, the 20th Anniversary edition of Vurt is pretty cool (though it loses Gill Sans, which I can’t disassociate from Vurt). Channel Sk1n is a great read.

Nice! Which of those editions of Pollen is older? I haven’t seen the one on the left before, and it took me a while to find the one on the right...Sadly, that and the edition of Alice you have are my only hardcovers. The rest have all been paperbacks.
How are the books after Cobralingus? Falling out of Cars, Channel Skin, etc.?

The pink version of Pollen is a UK 1st edition with mildly different layouts for some of the pages, but identical text. Falling out of Cars is pretty good, Cobralingus is just fucking weird, but is unlike anything else I’ve ever encountered (I mean, see the post I linked above, that’s a normal chapter in Cobralingus). Channel Sk1n is really a fun, quick read. It’s pretty standard Noon, and as far as I am aware, is only available via ebook.
I’m still not sure if Needle In The Groove or Vurt is my favorite.

Are any of the later ones set in the same universe as Vurt, or are they standalones?
One of my favorite things as I was reading the other books is how well he intertwines their stories, and shows little details here and there for the “Aha!” moments - like the short story in Pixel Juice where you realize it’s that Beetle you’re reading about...

So, you know that Nymphomation is the prequel, right? Otherwise, as best as I can tell, no, though, I will always hedge that statement that they are definitely in Noon’s Universe.
The bits in Pixel Juice that are directly tied to Vurt, those were amazing moments the first read (or first discovery read).

Yeah, I loved seeing how things were set up in Nymphomation. Honestly I’m kinda glad they’re not all in the same universe. After enough books, it can sometimes feel like an author is reaching too much to keep things tied together...

I agree. Though with the shorts in Cybersex, Pixel Juice, and then the new ones in the 20th Anniversary edition, it’s great to see the world more fleshed out and built on, but none of it seems forced. And where lines don’t quite fall into place, the entire world is kind of shifting anyway.
Also, it is really damn rare for someone to make the gamecat/vurt connection. In 5+ years on here, you’re the third or fourth person who has said something. Sometimes I kind of get the feeling that Vurt was much bigger in my head than it actually was.
For me, it was one of those hugely impactful works of fiction in my life. Up there with the best from Gaiman, Adams, Gibson, Stephenson, or anyone else. And absolutely in it’s own subcategory.

20th anniversary edition?
Heh...it probably helps that I’ve been known to call people kittlings from time to time. Vurt is one of the only books I’ve read, that I couldn’t put down and just plowed through in one sitting. I wish Alice had been so quick to catch my interest - it took me 3 or 4 tries to get far enough into it for the story to pick up speed.
I read all sorts of Sci-fi, I just don’t get a chance to read very often anymore. The Hitchhiker’s Guide has been one of the guiding forces in my life (the man who runs the universe, especially - I keep his chapter bookmarked in my more than complete 1st edition). I haven’t gotten as much into Stephenson as I’d like though, other than Snow Crash. I’d been on a huge old sci-fi kick for a while, reading Heinlein and Asimov’s “The Rest of the Robots”. I’m reading this little 12 book mini-set of Doctor Who books now, but I’m probably going to read through the Vurt universe stuff again, once I’m done with those. I’ve always liked how deep Noon gets into the culture of the world he’s created, rather than every piece of tech being a Deus ex machina that moves the story forward from action scene to action scene. The entire world is so vivid, and alive...

Worth picking up, IMO (I pre-ordered it and got it a couple of days post release, coming from the UK).
I read nearly everything by Asimov growing up, and it kind of set the table for me falling in love with Stephen Baxter and Robert J Sawyer. But I read a lot of sci-fi, though strangely, I never quite appreciated Heinlein’s writing as much as the others. Though I tried. I would find a new author and tear through their works, seriously abusing both my wallet and library card. I miss having that kind of time on my hands. Parenthood and pursuing a career have put dampers on my voracious reading habits.
Alice was a weird book for me. I didn’t like it the first time through, but the second time I read it, I was recommending it to everyone . Pixel Juice was like a drug though, as was Nymphomation.

I have. Early last year, you could follow yourself and you could follow yourself for any blog you were an author on. Then both functionalities disappeared. Guess they’re back now.

Heinlein was an odd one to get into, for me. I’d had people recommend him for years, and so I picked up Stranger in a Strange Land to read on the train to/from Vancouver. I was completely engrossed with it until it turns into, “let’s start a cult!”, and I haven’t been able to pick it back up since - 3 years later. I picked up Slaughterhouse Five and Sirens of Titan, and enjoyed both of them, though. I’m still eyeing my copy of The Moon is a Harsh Mistress somewhere in my next 4 or 5 books to read, but he doesn’t really suck me in like other authors do. I think in part it’s because he wrote so long ago that a lot of my modern science knowledge invalidates what I’m reading...
I’m definitely going to have to check out the anniversary edition of Vurt! More short stories in that world! YAY!
I miss the newness Asimov had to me, as a kid. I’d kind of skipped the Robot books until I read the Lucky Starr series, and got totally hooked. I burned through most of the rest of his stuff I could get my hands on after that.
I know what you mean about not having the time to read, anymore. I bought this neat little collection of 12 Doctor Who short stories (each as a separate book, in a box set) back when it was still cold out, and since then I haven’t had the time to get through more than the first one...
